The year is 1998.

It has only been four months since The Battle of Hogwarts, but the Ministry believe it important for things to return to normal as quickly as possible.

On September 1st Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has reopened, only this time with an extra bundle of students. The old class of '98 have been invited back to resit their year with the current NEWTS class, as their education in the previous year was 'inconsistent'. Room is made for them in their former houses and tensions are lifted from Hogwarts for the first time in a long time.

Meanwhile, in Europe, Wizarding communities are being crippled by a virus that slowly destroys the ability to perform magic. Schools are being closed down to try and prevent the spread. Emergency procedures are put in place to try and stop it reaching Great Britain, but soon it becomes clear that it has not been successful.

When a teacher and student are confirmed to have the virus and the Ministry immediately quarantines Hogwarts, placing a ward around the castle and its grounds to try and stop the spread.

One by one students find themselves losing their ability to perform even the simplest of spells. But even as they struggle to try and discover a cure, darker forces are beginning to close in on the school...

With their worlds suddenly turned upside down again, will the students be able to once more pull together or will this be one hurdle too big for them to overcome?

Game Elements

This game is a Hogwarts-based, Post-DH game.

To keep things interesting, the game will rely on a great deal of random selection concerning the affects and spread of the virus. Players will be emailed at random and informed they have certain symptoms. They will then have five days to inflict the symptoms on their characters either in secret (they may not want anyone to know, even their closest friends, for fear of osticisim) or in public.
Another email will be sent after five days have letting them know that they’re actually just suffering from the common cold or that they are infected and must begin to lose their magic. Only a few characters will possess natural immunity, so by signing up you are agreeing that your character is at risk.

Some characters will be blessed with a prophecy. These characters will only be divination student and will be fed ideas, clues or warnings regarding the virus or various tidbits alluding to future plots.

Random selection gets everyone involved, adds and element of surprise and keeps things interesting. It also means you will have to provide an email address you check frequently.

People who don’t attend Hogwarts, E.g the Order of the Phoenix members, can enter the game by either becoming infected (afterwhich they will immediately be transferred to Hogwarts by the Ministry) or voluntarily entering the school. Once you are in, however, you cannot leave. The wards will not let you.

The same applies to Death Eaters. They may have been able to enter the grounds, but they cannot break the wards to escape. They are, however, free to set up base in the Forbidden Forest, though they too will begin to feel the effects of the virus. Again only one or two will be immune.

The immune are not solely responsible for finding a cure. They’re just lucky.
Due to the nature of the virus and it’s attachment to the magical gene, purebloods will find it a lot more difficult to deal with.

Owls cannot be used after the quarantine outside of the school. They can be used inside school to send very private messages. Communication with the outside world can only take place in the journals. How your character gets one and how long they have had it is up to you. Maybe years, maybe recently. You aren’t obliged to start from OMG FIRST ENTRY.

Plagued is a plot-driven game, but no outcome has been determined so it really depends on the players, characters and the choices made in game! We want to see where this ends up, because that's what RPing is all about!
Unpredictability.

Please be sure you agree with all of the rules and terms&conditions of play before you apply to stop things getting messy later. It is integral that you are happy with what you are signing up for.

Any other elements you are curious about, please email the mods.
